The British Society of Magazine Editors (BSME) has appointed Hattie Brett, editor, Grazia, as its 2021 Chair, succeeding Maria Pieri, editorial director, National Geographic Traveller (UK). Hattie will be supported by Vice-Chairs Gaby Huddart, editor-in-chief, Good Housekeeping and group editorial director at Hearst Lifestyle, and Tim Pollard, digital editorial director, Bauer Automotive and Specialist.
Hattie Brett said: “If 2020 proved anything it’s that even at the most challenging time the creativity of magazine publishing knows no limits. We saw inventive ideas, beautiful and powerful covers and smart innovation to reach new readers in new ways - all with most editors operating their multi-media brands from their kitchen tables. So I’m delighted to be taking the helm of the BSME - an organisation that’s always been brilliant at highlighting talent within our industry. It’s never felt more important to ensure the BSME continues to help inform and inspire editors and provide a crucial network for sharing opportunities and skills - especially in our new socially-distanced world. I also hope to build on the successes of the new BSME Education strand, to find and support a new, diverse generation of journalists.”
