Today Calvin Klein and Dazed have launched a project that identifies the next generation of stars in independent publishing, presenting ‘Self Published’ a project shining a light on best-in-class emerging magazines from across Europe. 

The magazines were selected for their distinctive voices in media and tasked to create a one-off digital zine with self-styling shoots using iconic jeans and underwear essentials from Calvin Klein.

Azeema, founded by Jameela Elfaki and based in London, is a magazine, platform and community exploring women within the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia, diasporas and beyond.

Bellissimo, founded by Ivan Ruberto and Paolo Zerbini and based in Milan, the duo describe themselves as a “tribute band” and magazine obsessives, constantly referencing their inspirations. They launched the magazine as a counter-movement to what they were seeing.

Matto, founded in Paris by Aldo Buscalferri and Dominika Hadelova, is a contemporary culture magazine, featuring conversations and studio visits, inspired by contemporary art, books, and the city’s club scene. For their digital zine they took inspiration from within their four walls and what they mean in a wider sense, looking at the city's housing crisis.

The brief for ‘Self-Published’, included tasking each of the selected titles to create a four-page digital zine focusing on topics that are important to them and their audience. They could decide what sort of content to include, using photography, written pieces, mixed media collages, illustrations and more.
