The Guardian's senior fashion writer Lauren Cochrane has announced the launch of her book, The Ten: The stories behind the fashion classics.
A social and cultural history of the 10 items we all wear every day by fashion writer Lauren Cochrane. illustrated with high-quality photography, this hardback book is the ultimate companion for every fashion and style enthusiast.
The Ten includes deep dive explorations into each item's history, how it gained its reputation, and what it means today, accompanied by stylish photography and illustrations and expert interviews ranging from Biba's Barbara Hulanicki on the miniskirt, A-Cold-Wall's Samuel Ross on the hoodie and Arthur Beale's owner on the Breton top. Stories of iconic adopters and landmarks in the story of each piece reveal how they have achieved their status as so ubiquitous and yet so extraordinary.
Showing how certain pieces are just as ubiquitous on the catwalk as on the street, Lauren Cochrane's volume defines the fashion items that make up your wardrobe, and how they got there, providing the perfect excuse - a pedigree, a narrative, a realness - for the reader to wear them time and time again.
The Ten will be launching 29 April, at £14.99 in hardback.
