Kering has published its first-ever dedicated biodiversity strategy, outlining targets through which the company aims to achieve a net positive impact on biodiversity by 2025. The company has also announced the launch of a 5 million-euro fund for the development of regenerative agriculture. Kering's approach to biodiversity is set out in four stages: avoid, reduce, restore & regenerate and transform.
Kering will be supporting several conservation programmes and developing rigorous standards for raw material sourcing, manufacturing processes and animal welfare. The company will focus on three goals: stemming biodiversity loss, restoring ecosystems and species and sparking systemic change that goes above and beyond its supply chains.
The Kering for Nature Fund has been conceived to reduce the environmental impact of the production of the raw materials destined to be transformed into ready-to-wear pieces and leather goods by the company. The fund will allow the company to convert 1 million hectares of farms and rangelands in its supply chain landscapes into regenerative agriculture by 2025 and protect an additional 1 million hectares of critical irreplaceable habitat outside of its supply chain.
