Westminster City Council has outlined its plan for a £150 million revamp of Oxford Street. Referenced as the 'great comeback' the council's new plans hope to reinvent the high street for a post-pandemic recovery, as well as for the long-term.
The new Oxford Street District (OSD) framework, developed with key strategic partners, will deliver:
Oxford Street was already in development pre-pandemic, but the new proposals respond to changes to shopping habits and working patterns that have been accelerated by Covid-19. The investment will transform Oxford Street into a global destination for the 21st century, prioritising pedestrians additional green spaces, less traffic, zero-emission buses and significantly cleaner air.
