The Mayor of London Boris Johnson MP today announced a £3.9 million project to build on and support fashion’s heritage in East London. The ‘Fashioning Poplar’ project is a partnership between London College of Fashion, one of six colleges within University of the Arts London, and housing association Poplar HARCA. The hub will include commercial studios, a fashion business space, manufacturing unit, a fashion technology accelerator and a public café, events space and outdoor area. The project will create 40 full time jobs, transform 2000m2 of underused land and garages by the A12 motorway in Poplar, support 143 businesses in its first two years and support local community groups and charities. Work will start shortly and the hub is expected to open in autumn 2017.
