Italian shoe designer, Sergio Rossi has died at the age of 84. His passing was announced on 3 April, after he had previously been hospitalised in Cesena. Rossi was part of the generation of Italian artisans who emerged after World War II that showcased Italian craftsmanship to the world. The young designer helped turn his local family business into a renowned global brand.
Rossi was best known for his Opanca sandal, with a sole that curved up the sides to blend in with the foot. His signature style, however, was his Godiva stiletto.
The brand's CEO Riccardo Sciutto issued a statement on Instagram about Rossi's passing saying: "Sergio Rossi was a master, and it is my great honor to have met him and gotten to present him the archive earlier this year. His vision and approach will remain our guide in the growth of the brand and the business... Our long and glorious history started from his incredible vision and we’ll remember his creativity forever."
There has been no official cause of death announced, but reports have emerged that he was suffering from Covid-19.
