ShopStyle, part of the POPSUGAR group, has introduced Emoticode, a new tool that enables bloggers, brands and retailers the chance to maximise monetisation on social media platforms. Launched this week, Emoticode’s innovative new technology converts traditional URLs into a visual link consisting of emojis and alphanumeric characters so that content appearing on social media platforms, such as Snapchat and Instagram, can instantly be accessed or made directly shoppable for the first time.
Emoticode’s patent-pending ‘emoji URL’ offers a fun, convenient and visually organic way to create and consume content links natively in Snapchat and Instagram. This removes current limitations around written content, external linking and monetisation within these platforms, allowing content creators to drive traffic to their own sites from Snapchat and Instagram’s previously closed social systems. Emoticode links can be created and used for any web page, helping consumers navigate everything from product purchases to recipes, beauty tutorials and fitness workouts.
Emoticode links can be created via the Emoticode app, ShopStyle Collective app and Safari web browser, and shopped through the Emoticode app and the ShopStyle app. The technology is expected to be enabled in the POPSUGAR app and will be available for white label integration into other apps later this year. The technology is launching with brands such as Topshop, Farfetch and Luisaviaroma committed to using the platform to monetise their social traffic.
