Online resale platform StockX has released a round-up of some of the biggest trends of the year, highlighting a rise in interest in non-conventional shoes and collaborations between contrasting brands.
StockX commented: "The sneaker market is so volatile thanks to trends and pop culture that sometimes it’s hard to really pinpoint what will be a total success. These past few years have been filled with some surprise hitters from brands like Jordan Brand and New Balance, each with the possibility of being considered grails to many in the future."
Trades of Crocs clogs, for example, totalled more than 35,000 on the platform this year, while Yeezy slides have seen 250% trade growth year over year. Yeezy’s opinion-splitting Foam RNNR model has also seen phenomenal growth, with annual trades up 3,400% compared to 2020.
Birkenstock's creative partnerships with the likes of Californian streetwear label Stüssy and NYC-based fashion brand Proenza Schouler have helped stoke renewed buzz around its products, leading trades of Birkenstock’s collaborative clogs and sandals to increase 300% year over year on StockX.
