The Independent has broken records in the year it decisively moved to a digital-only newsbrand, seeing its audience grow by 46% (year-on-year). The latest NRS PADD figures show that in the year it became the first major newspaper to close its print edition, The Independent has added 6,646,000 readers to its total audience.
These figures are inclusive of The Independent Daily Edition subscription app, which launched in March.
The Independent now has an editorial team of more than 100, as a result of continued investment both in the UK and globally. Global bureaux are due to open in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Europe, with expansion in the US continuing.
