The New York Times has announced the appointment of David Malitz (pictured, left) as deputy culture editor, working closely with deputy editor Alicia DeSantis, focusing on editing criticism and growing pop culture coverage. David is currently senior culture editor at The Washington Post.

Robin Kawakami (pictured, right), currently senior digital editor at NBC News’ Today, has been appointed assistant culture editor where she will be directing audience, data and digital publishing. In this role, Robin will work closely with the newsroom’s Audience team and incorporate data and analytics to help inform the Culture desk’s coverage.

David and Robin will commence these roles 26 June.
