Twitter has confirmed a new beta experiment, the launch of Twitter Shops. The new feature will allow merchants to handpick a collection of up to 50 products to showcase to shoppers on Twitter. It is free and gives people the chance to view products from the profiles of their favourite brands by selecting the “View shop” button just above their Tweets. Twitter Shops gives merchants a larger, fully-immersive space to highlight a longer catalogue of products compared to the Shop Module feature that allows merchants to showcase up to five products directly on their profile. Twitter Shops is available for small businesses, creators and big brands as well as select merchants and managed partners in the U.S.
Twitter is also launching two features to 3% of Twitter, across Android, iOS, and Web. The first feature is the public ALT badge, added to images where alternative text descriptions are available. The second feature are exposed image descriptions, to make them more accessible. Adding image descriptions allows people who are blind, have low vision, use assistive tech, live in low-bandwidth areas, or have a cognitive disability, to fully contribute on Twitter. This limited release will last for about a month.
