Vogue Arabia and the Dubai Design & Fashion Council (DDFC) have announced the 10 ready-to-wear and accessories finalists of the 2016 DDFC/Vogue Fashion Prize, an annual endowment for the Arab world’s most promising fashion talents.
The Fashion Prize was launched in 2015 in partnership with the global luxury ecommerce brand Farfetch and aims to invigorate regional talent by providing a platform for emerging Middle Eastern designers to showcase their abilities. The Fashion Prize is overseen by a Selection Committee comprising senior executives from Vogue Arabia, the Dubai Design & Fashion Council, Farfetch, and both the regional and international fashion communities.
During the application phase, over 100 different designers from 12 countries across the Arab world applied. Following a vote from the Selection Committee, five ready-to-wear and five accessories designers have been chosen as finalists: Daneh (Daneh Buahmed): ready-to-wear; Karoline Lang: ready-to-wear; Mira Hayek: ready-to-wear; Mochi (Ayah Tabari): ready-to-wear; Reemami (Reema Albanna): ready-to-wear; HKD – Hooked (Farah Nasri): accessories (jewellery); Nathalie Trad: accessories (bags); Okhtein (Aya and Mounaz Abdelraouf): accessories (bags); Ralph Masri: accessories (jewellery); Rula Galayini: accessories (bags).
The ready-to-wear and accessory design winners of the Fashion Prize will be announced this autumn. The winning designers will receive a financial production grant; the opportunity to sell their collections to a global audience exclusively on Farfetch.com, as well as retail pick-up from renowned Farfetch boutique partners Browns (London), Curve (USA), and Al Ostoura (Kuwait); mentorship; media/press coverage; and an advertising campaign promoting the retail launch, collectively representing over US $250,000 in value.
