Natural beauty brand Weleda has announced the winner of its first ever Weleda Skin Food Fashion Award. The brand teamed up with graduate fashion students at University of Northampton to celebrate the 90th anniversary of its original and beat-selling skincare product, Skin Food. Students created designs inspired by the product and showcased them during London Fashion Week. Nine design pieces were shortlisted and judged by a panel. Cornelia Parker was announced the winner and took home a £1000 bursary as well as year’s supply of Weleda skincare.
Cornelia comments: “The top, made from layers of silk, was dyed with plant-based dyes including Logwood and a combination of blackberry and elderberry, which I sourced locally and dyed by hand. The silk organza on the top matched perfectly with Weleda’s light and airy visual aura. The colour choice was influenced by the brand’s use of the ingredients, principally Lavender. The dungarees are a combination of recycled denim from discarded clothing inspired by a traditional Japanese technique called Boro”
Other highly commended designers included Tiffany Ruff, whose shoe design caught judges’ attention with an eye-catching print including calendula and chamomile, as well as Adele Jolly who created boots made from a sustainable and distinctive bacteria material.
