WIRED has announced the launch of WIRED IN SPANISH, based in Mexico City, and serving the publication's Spanish-speaking audiences around the world. WIRED IN SPANISH will help address the tech news gap that exists in the market and further expand WIRED’s global reach as the preeminent tech authority.
Urbano Hidalgo has been appointed head of editorial content for the new edition. Urbano, who currently serves as head of editorial content at GQ Mexico and Latin America, will assume his new position on 1 January 2023. He will also continue to lead GQ Mexico and Latin America until a new head of editorial content is hired.
WIRED IN SPANISH, which includes a website and dedicated social channels, has a team of writers and editors based in Condé Nast’s Mexico City office, and will publish both original reporting and translated stories out of WIRED’s global newsroom. The site’s verticals include Business, Science, Ideas, Culture, and Gadgets.
Urbano and the team in Mexico will also be charged with building out the brand’s live events business in the region, which kicked off in September 2022 with the inaugural WIRED Summit. WIRED events draw together some of the brightest minds in health, security, science, business and politics to discuss the biggest problems facing humanity today, and the ways in which we can use technology to fix them.
