DIARY directory caught up with beauty vlogging sisters Nicola and Sam Chapman from Pixiwoo at The Hospital Club over London Fashion Week AW18, where they designed the make-up look for Lulu Guinness' LFW debut. Make-up artists Sam and Nic's blogging debut came in 2008, leading to the sisters becoming an integral fixture of the first wave of vlogging sensations. Fast forward 10 years later, the pair have not only launched their own sell-out make-up brush brand but are also at the forefront of the beauty industry!
You designed the LFW make-up look with Lulu Guinness, exclusively using Bobbi Brown - discuss the look you created!
The theme was a 70’s/80’s party so we went with ‘Desperately Seeking Susan’ with a current edge! We wanted the emphasis to be the red eye that's dragging down into the cheek with a full bushy untouched brow. No liner, no mascara and a red lip as a nod to Lulu herself.
What looks are you loving so far for AW18?
I’m loving full, untouched brows and minimal glowing skin with a deconstructed black liner. I think it’s really current and wearable. It’s the way I have seen make-up moving over the past 6 months or so.
Fave Bobbi Brown product at the moment and what are some other brands/products you're loving right now - What’s in your personal make-up bag at the moment?
I love the new Bobbi foundation, it’s got coverage that lasts but doesn’t look like you have loads of make-up on. That’s always a win in my book. I recently invested in a Dr Pawpaw tinted peach pink balm and I love it for lips and cheeks as a natural highlighter, it’s so lightweight and would work on all skin tones. One of my all-time favourites is YSL Volume Effect mascara in Noir Radical. For a more affordable lip, I love Bourjois Lip Velvets.
Your own brand Real Techniques is a favourite amongst beauty junkies.. any more beauty ventures in the pipeline?
We always have interesting things in the pipeline. Sam and I are always looking for new great things but nothing is far enough down the line for us to say if it’s going to happen or not yet. We are concentrating on making Real Techniques the best it can possibly be for now.
How do you make decisions about brands collaborations when one of you disagree?
We rarely disagree on brands (everything else we do daily) but if one of us has a slight hesitation we don’t do it. It’s not worth the stress if it doesn’t work.
Having been a success for almost a decade and seeing the rise of influencers, in your eyes what have been the biggest negatives & positives from this?
That’s a hard one because my negative and positive are the same. I think it's great that everyone has a voice and can share it but I also feel that you need to speak to a professional for the correct advice. With make-up, for instance, you can be amazingly talented at doing your own make-up but that doesn’t make you a make-up artist and it doesn’t mean you can advise others, it just means you're good at doing your make-up. Social is a fantastic platform, I just think the lines are blurred sometimes and things are not always as they seem.
What has been a career highlight for you both?
I have a few! Filming our BBC documentary ‘Hollywood Icons’ and seeing our book FACE on sale to buy, and finally winning a Glamour Woman Of The Year Award. These three things have definitely all been up there.
