DIARY directory recently caught up with beauty influencer Danny Defreitas. Whilst Danny's foray into the beauty world started off behind the scenes as a make-up artist and hair stylist, his profile has rocketed over the past year and he has established himself as a beauty influencer in his own right. Having recently launched a YouTube channel, Danny shares how he balances his day job with being an influencer, where he thinks social media stars will be 5 years from now and how he stays relevant in an evolving industry.

My number one tip of all would be consistency. This is the most important thing of all! Be creative and be you! I think it’s important to not be driven by numbers all the time but more the quality of your content. I spend a lot of time thinking about video ideas, what people might like to see and how it all comes together on my feed.
You post Insta tutorial videos and now have a YouTube channel, tell us where you see this heading.
I wasn’t planning on starting my YouTube so early but I got an amazing opportunity to work with a brand and I had to take the opportunity early! I've got so many ideas and plans for my YouTube channel for the coming months! One of the things I want to do is comparison videos with luxury products vs drugstore products along with in-depth reviews with step by steps. I can’t wait to share and connect on different levels with a new audience! Keep your eyes peeled!
There are so many social media stars nowadays, where do you think the industry will be in 5 years?
Wow, it’s so hard to say as it’s such a fast-changing industry, I never imagined I would even become someone with some sort of following. I would like to think that there are even more fun new ways of sharing tips and creating creative content to share with the world!
How do you stay relevant & how do you differentiate yourself from others?
There’s definitely pressure to be the forefront of the industry and keep up with demands of your audience. As soon as there is a product launch your audiences want to see and hear your thoughts on products! I feel for me it’s more about being expressive and fun and keeping it simple! It doesn’t always have to be a full-on look and sometimes even just a “how to” on a flawless base is a great way to engage.
Tell us something we don’t know about you…
I’m a total geek at heart, yup a nerd!
How do you think PRs and influencers can work better together?
Having clear communication is key but I have to admit I love working with PRs, the teams are always so supportive and friendly, it’s crazy how so many “meetings” just feel like catching up with friends.
What other influencers do you rate?
Wow this is a hard one for me, without sounding cheesy I would probably say my friends who do the same, you chat and see the real day to day of reality and not just the glamorous side. It’s nice to see the blood, sweat and tears, the sheer work that goes into it. They inspire me, you know who you are!
